Collision Repair FAQs
Simple tips for keeping your finish looking like new . . .
- Do not use a machine polisher unless you use exactly the right pad, polish, and technique. This will cause squiggly swirl marks on dark colors that will look awful in the sunlight.
- Use touch less car washes
- If you wash your own car, rinse thoroughly before touching the surface. Wash with a soft clean wash mitt. Any dirt between the paint and your mitt will scratch the finish.
|
- Use a “California Water Blade”
Squeegee and MicroFiber during cloth (available from us) for drying your car. Micro fiber drying cloths absorb more water, leave virtually no streaks or water spots. Combined, these 2 products are much faster than the conventional chamois and not induce fine scratches like other synthetic drying cloths.

| Do not use rubbing compound on your car’s finish. If you have a blemish that wax will not remove, you can purchase material from us that are aggressive enough to polish out defects but will not dull the finish unlike compound sold at auto parts stores. |
Wax your car at least 3 times per year! We recommend Easy Polish Carnauba Wet Wax. It is easy to apply and comes off easily. Easy polish leaves a showroom finish on new or used paint. This polish will restore color and gloss to lightly oxidized finishes as well as pre-cleaned surfaces. Also eliminates streaks and haze. Contains carnauba wax and detergent resistant polymers for a 'wet look' shine. |
Stone Chips and Scratches |
 |
- It's true that clear coated finishes are more durable than single stage finishes, however, it is not as bulletproof as many of us would like.
- Stones hurled at the car at 60 plus miles an hour will chip the paint.
|
For these unfortunate realities, we provide touch up paint with every repair. The best way to apply touch up paint is to open a paper clip, dip the end 1/8” into the paint, and touch the tip of the clip to the center of the chip.
Delicately move the tip of the clip around just enough to distribute the paint to the edges of the chip without going over the edges. You should only bother with chips that are 1/16” or larger. Touching up chips smaller than 1/16" will look worse than just leaving the paint chip alone.
If you're not comfortable using the paper clip method to apply the paint. We have a Paint Touch-up Kit available for $3.00. It's an easy to use syringe that is used to fill nicks and stone chips on any horizontal surface of your vehicle. |
